     Are serial killers aware of what they are doing? Are they aware of the consequences? A sociopath is considered legally insane (A LEGAL TERM FOR MENTAL ILLNESS OF SUCH DEGREE THAT THE INDIVIDUAL IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS OR HER ACTS). Well, this is quite a controversial topic that many have pondered over. The law is the law, and there is nothing people can do about it. Rules are rules. There will always be a severe punishment for murder, but in some cases, such as when a killer has ASP, their punishment is not necessarily death or anything too awfully harsh. It is sometimes treatment. These sociopaths are aware of the consequences of murder, but they really just do not care. Something in their brain just does not click. They live purely for themselves in what some people might think of as a fantasy world.
